NAGARI (CHITTOOR DT): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 4,620-crore Galeru-Nagari Sujala Sravanthi irrigation project at Nagari in the district on Sunday. While the project was aimed at providing irrigation facility to 2.60 lakh acres, 1.03 lakh acres in Chittoor district alone would get the benefit, Dr. Reddy said while addressing a gathering. Moreover, 11 major irrigation tanks and reservoirs in Kadapa and Chittoor districts would be brought under the fold of the scheme.
Dig at Naidu
Taking a dig at TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister said the TDP during its regime never gave a serious look into the perennial problems of the area though its leader belonged to the district. On the other hand, the Congress, in a span of two years, took up major irrigation projects, he said. Dr. Reddy listed various schemes being undertaken by the Government for the uplift of the poor. The Chief Minister said the necessary steps would be initiated to set up a textile park at Nagari. He disbursed loans of Rs.15 crores to beneficiaries of various schemes. Earlier, he inaugurated social welfare hostels and a library building.
