YSR to lay foundation for APSP building

15th battalion to function from today

KHAMMAM: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the administrative building of the 15th battalion of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) at Ganagram village near Sathupalli on Monday.

The battalion, which has been raised with a sanctioned strength of 1,206 personnel, will start functioning from Monday with its temporary headquarters at the training centre building of the APSP 1st Battalion at Yousufguda in Hyderabad, according to Sathupalli MLA Jalagam Venkata Rao.

The Government had released a budget of Rs.6.07 crores for providing the new battalion with stores, equipment, arms and ammunition.

Besides this, an amount of Rs 1.73 crore was allotted for purchase of vehicles. An amount of Rs 5.02 crores was sanctioned for building infrastructure including bachelor barracks, bell of arms, barracks, hospital building and official quarters.

The APSP will appoint 822 constables by direct recruitment of tribal youths from the scheduled areas in the State for creating the new battalion. The Government had already appointed B. Nagamuni Naik as the Commandant of the new battalion and M. Dasaratha Ramaiah, Ch. Hashavardhan Rao, P. Rama Rao and A.Rami Reddy as the Assistant Commandants.
