MLC seeks probe into `irregularities'

Special Correspondent

`Chancellor should order suspension of selection process for varsity posts'

GULBARGA: The BJP MLC Shashil G. Namoshi on Sunday urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, who is also the Chancellor of the Karnataka State Women's University in Bijapur, to institute a high-level inquiry into the irregularities allegedly committed by Vice-Chancellor of the university Sayeeda Akhtar and the leak of a secret document on naming members of the Board of Appointments (BoA) made by the Chancellor even before the recruitment process in the university could begin.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Namoshi said he had faxed the letter to the Governor's office and was also sending a copy of it to Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. He said according to his information the Government had served a notice to the Vice-Chancellor seeking her reply to the leak of the document and the alleged complaints of irregularities in the recruitment to the 90 posts of professor, reader and lecturer in different departments of the university.

Holding the Vice-Chancellor responsible for the leak, Mr. Namoshi said the Chancellor should immediately cancel the BoA and direct the Vice-Chancellor to suspend the process of selection to the posts in the university till a new BoA was appointed.

Mr. Namoshi said that even after news of the leak appeared in the press, the university had not stopped the recruitment process and there were large-scale complaints about money being involved in the selection process. He said that he would raise the issue in the Legislative Council during the two-day special session starting from Monday.
