Govt. urged to implement VAT

ERODE: The Erode Gold and Silver Jewels Merchants Association, at its general council meeting held here on Saturday unanimously resolved to request the State Government to implement the Value Added Tax (VAT) immediately.

The meeting, presided by association president K. Balasubramanian, resolved to request the Government to exempt merchants doing business below Rs. 3 lakhs a year from paying tax. They appealed that the gold and silver trade should be removed from the MCX online trading. The following are the new office-bearers for the Association: K. Balasubramanian (president), K.P. Sengoda Gounder and V. Chinnarasu (vice-presidents), P. Dharmaraj (secretary), N. Ragunathan (joint secretary), N. Veluasamy (assistant secretary) and P. Selvakumar (treasurer).
