ADILABAD: Because of two major advantages over other medium irrigation projects in Adilabad district, timely completion of the Rs. 124-crore Jagannathpur lift irrigation (LI) scheme is possible. The scheme, for which Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will lay the foundation stone on Monday at Jagannathpur village in Kagaznagar mandal across the Peddavagu river, requires neither forest clearance nor does it displace people though 320 acres of land would go under submergence. The project aiming to irrigate 15,000 acres in 17 villages in Kagaznagar and Dahegaon mandals in Kharif is a dream project of Kagaznagar MLA Koneru Konappa. It would have a life of 50 years as per its design. The Peddavgu stream originates near Ghatpalli in Narnoor mandal and flows for 90 km before reaching the site about 2 km from Kagaznagar town. It flows for 65 more km to join the Pranahita river. The catchment area of this scheme having a canal system running up to 25 km is over 3,000 sq km. The storage capacity at 165 meters full reservoir level is nearly 135 mcft. The villages that would benefit from the scheme are Jagannathpur, Bodepalli and Bhatpalli in Kagaznagar, Itial, Rallagudem, Borlakunta, Kothagudem, Kothameer, Jendagudem, Bibre, Ainam, Chinna Ainam, Pesarkunta, Babapur, Dahegaon, Kammarpalli and Pambapur in Dahegaon mandal.
