CHENNAI: One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of AIADMK town secretary of Ambattur, M.R. Ravi, on Friday. Eight others are absconding. Ravi was hacked to death at his Padi office by a nine-member gang. Investigations point to business rivalry between Ravi and Vellai Ramesh of Korattur as the motive for the murder, Chennai Metropolitan Police Commissioner Letika Saran told a press conference here on Sunday. The victim's party office and real estate business were housed in a building on Yadava Street. The gang attacked him with a sabre, causing grievous injuries on his head, neck and hands. When Kumar, Ravi's driver, resisted, he was also attacked. The gang members escaped on two-wheelers. Both the injured were taken to a private hospital in Anna Nagar, where Ravi succumbed to injuries. Kumar filed a complaint with the Korattur police. Five special parties were formed under the supervision of A. Arun, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar. One of them arrested B. Arasu (25) of Dharmaraj Street, Kalaivanar Nagar, Padi, near Retteri. His interrogation revealed the enmity between Ravi and Ramesh. There was also a dispute regarding real estate business. A conspiracy was hatched to eliminate Ravi, the Commissioner said. Ramesh, Paanai Selvan, Babu and five other accomplices were absconding. They did not belong to a particular gang. She said the city police had drawn up a list of rowdy elements.
