CHENNAI: Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday called upon State party workers to humbly accept the defeat in the Assembly elections and work for strengthening the organisation at district, block and village level. Addressing the State executive committee members, district presidents and candidates here, he appealed to the party functionaries not to be disheartened by the poll outcome. He urged them to prepare for the next round of elections by learning from their experience, a party release said.
"Be more visible"
He told the party activists to enhance grassroots-level work, besides becoming more active and visible. He asked them to spend more time on party activities and strengthen the organisation in the next six months. Stressing the need for taking up issues affecting people's interests, Mr. Naidu said party workers should be prepared to launch agitations to highlight the demands. The BJP central leadership, at the recent national executive, had decided to focus more on the southern and eastern regions. He also asked the party activists to strive for mobilising people against "wrong policies" of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre. Claiming that the Office of Profit Bill violated the spirit of Article 102 of the Constitution, he expressed the hope that the UPA Government would not proceed with its plans to introduce it in Parliament. If the Government was bent on introducing it during the monsoon session, the BJP would oppose it tooth and nail. He described the ban on the film `The Da Vince Code' in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as yet another instance of vote bank politics adopted by the Congress and its allies.
