CHENNAI : A 28-year-old man died when he fell from the scaffolding of a road-over-bridge under construction in Tirusulam. Ram Bajak Rai of Bihar and a group of workers were on the scaffolding when it gave way suddenly. He was rushed to a private hospital in Pallavaram where he was declared dead. Three others were undergoing treatment, Meenamabakkam police said.
Acid attack
The Kodungaiyur police arrested a 60-year-old woman on charges of attempting to murder her 30-year-old daughter on Friday. According to police, Dhanapakkiyam got her daughter Priya married to Nandagopal (55), brother of Dhanapakkiyam. A quarrel erupted between mother and daughter over a property in the name of Nandagopal. The mother allegedly sprayed acid on Priya's face. The victim suffered burn injuries and was admitted to the Stanley Medical College hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. The Kodungaiyur police arrested Dhanapakkiyam and are investigating.
Jewellery recovered
A special police team from St.Thomas Mount police district arrested a person and recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh from him recently. A release said the special party arrested Ramesh of Tiruporur in Kancheepuram district. Police said he targeted women residing in Chitlapakkam and Selaiyur police limits. The victims invariably were residents who kept their windows open at night. Already, Kumaran Nagar, Pondy Bazaar and Velachery police had arrested him in connection with several cases of theft, the release said. He was detained under the Goondas Act thrice.
Arrack seized
The Kodungaiyur police arrested a 50-year-old woman and seized 100 sachets of arrack smuggled in from Karnataka. A raid was conducted in the house of the woman, Sarasu, in Kodungaiyur Colony, which resulted in the seizure.
