HYDERABAD: When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. -- H.G. Wells. Taking the message of `Cycle for a greener tomorrow' on the eve of World Environment Day, nearly 100 employees of Satyam Computer Services Limited on Sunday organised a bicycle rally across the city. The rally that was conducted under the aegis of Satyam Foundation's Environment Forum was flagged off from Jalagam Vengal Rao Park, Krishna Kant Park and Shilpakala Vedika simultaneously, spreading the message to use bicycles to reduce pollution. "We all use bikes and cars to go to even supermarkets and shops next to our homes. By using cycle we can at least check pollution to an extent, if not completely. After all, it is small drops that make a big ocean," says S. Dheeraj, an employee of the company. Bill Nye, the Science Guy's quote, "Bicycling is a big part of the future. It has to be. There's something wrong with a society that drives a car to workout in a gym," aptly sums up the Hyderabad story. Choked streets, automobile fumes thick in the air and more and more automobiles streaming onto the streets everyday. "Hyderabadis are increasingly becoming dependent on automobiles. Surely, we can make a small difference by using bicycles at least in the neighbourhood for small errands," the organisers maintained.
