Burglary on city outskirts

Home guard sustains injury as a gang member opens fire

VIJAYAWADA: A home guard sustained a bullet injury on his waist when a member of a burglars' gang opened fire at him during the process of robbing the owners of a secluded house on the city outskirts of their valuables in the early hours of Sunday.

The burglars decamped with Rs. 6,000 cash, a gold chain, a pair of earrings, two mobile phones and a camera - all estimated to be of a value of Rs. 16,000. The home guard is undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital (GGH). His condition is stable, doctors said.

The incident sent shockwaves among the residents of S.S.S. Colony.
