THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City Police Commissioner has issued guidelines to various banks on how to prevent burglary during monsoon. The following are the guidelines: Locate the cash counter at a safe distance from the main entrance; the cash counter should be near the strong room and cash safe; the bank should have a main entrance and a separate emergency exit. During transactions only the main entrance should be open. Customers should not be allowed free access near the strong room and the seat of the cashier; there should be sufficient lighting inside the bank during business hours and sufficient lighting outside the banks during nighttime; steps should be taken to clear unwanted vegetation that obstructs the view of the building; the strong room should have special lighting arrangement. The banks should have adequate emergency lights at its disposal; the bank manager's cabin should be located in such a way that he/she gets a good view at every nook and corner; the cabins should be built using glass windows; the doors of the strong room should not be located in view of the visitors; the cash cabin should always be locked from inside before functioning; before locking the main entrance of the bank make sure that all the windows, doors and ventilators are closed; only steel boxes should be used for transporting cash; while transporting the cash in vehicles the steel boxes should be chained with the body of the vehicle; burglar alarm system should be linked with telephone; the safes inside the strong room should be made fire and burglary resistant; the cash cabins should be built according to the guidelines stipulated by the Indian Banks Association. Steps should be taken to prevent access to strangers anywhere near the cash counter or strong room; officials manning the cash counter should leave the counter only after locking it; the doors of the cash counter should be reinforced using iron grille; the telephone numbers of the nearest police station, control room and fire service officials should always be kept ready. Anti-burglary equipment such as passive infrared detector, burglar alarm system and auto-dialler system should be installed and dilapidated windows, doors and ventilators should be repaired.
