MADURAI: The Federation of Tamil Nadu Physically Handicapped Association has urged the Government to provide entrepreneurship training to the physically challenged and to start exclusive industrial estates for them in all districts. At the meeting of its Southern districts' office-bearers here recently, the federation sought benefits for the disabled on the lines of those enjoyed by the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. They urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to fulfil the poll promise of increase in reservation for the physically challenged in job opportunities from 3 to 6 per cent, and the finance assistance from Rs.200 to Rs.500. The federation called for lifting the ban on sale of lottery tickets, "as it provided employment opportunity to a lot of physically challenged persons." They wanted the Government to regularise the services of those appointed on consolidated pay during the Government staff strike. They wanted the identity card issued by the District Rehabilitation Office to be accepted as a proof of identity while registering at the employment exchange. The federation also sought for extension of marriage assistance given for people with 80 per cent disability to those with 40 per cent.
