Fighting AIDS is getting them big business. Shrinking the massive battle against HIV/AIDS to the tiny space of the mobile phone screen, ZMQ Software Systems, which had launched the "Freedom HIV/AIDS" Mobile Games on the awareness of the disease on December 1, 2005 - World AIDS Day -- has become the first Indian company
While it is a first for a "desi" company, these awards were given at the Fifth Annual Awards for Business Excellence gala held at a glittering function at the Banqueting House in London to 18 other companies.
ZMQ Software Systems got this praise for its achievement in the category of core competency for its innovative initiative of using hardcore business practices for AIDS. This game is available on 30 million mobile phones the world over.
These games use India's obsession with cricket to capitalise on the deadly disease. Essentially an awareness exercise, these games equip people
"We are taking new initiatives to fight the pandemic at three levels -- corporate level, schools for children and adolescents, and rural level for semi-literate communities using our core competency by developing tools, edutainment solutions, games and e-Learning systems," said Hilmi Quraishi, Chief Learning Technology Officer of ZMQ Software Systems.
Promising to take it to the next higher level, Hilmi Quraishi asserts that the company will scale up its commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS in Asia and Africa taking advantage of its speciality of educational technology and edutainment, following the advice of the musical legend Sir Elton John who pointed out that there might be no medical vaccine but there surely is a social vaccine against AIDS and it is called education. -- Mandira Nayar
