Shortage of NCERT books to hit CBSE schools

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: CBSE schools in the State will have a tough time getting adequate number of NCERT textbooks this academic year as the Kerala distributors are yet to get the shipments they have asked for.

Kerala has the largest number of schools, some 500, affiliated to the CBSE and over 200 are awaiting affiliation. Most of these schools rely on the book supplies from the NCERT. According to the All-Kerala Book Sellers Association, hardly a tenth of the State's textbook requirements have been received from the NCERT. If urgent steps are not taken, this would delay classes and hit the children badly, Peter Mechery, the association's president said.

The association has now petitioned the Union Human Resource Ministry to take immediate steps to rush in the required number of books.
