The `complaint box approach' to win people's confidence
Complaint boxes in the era of e-governance? Sounds unusual, but the Koilandy police are implementing the time-tested approach to deal with crimes in this municipal town of Kozhikode district.
Koilandy police station Sub Inspector A. Umesh says that the scheme is part of modernisation programme to improve relationships between police and people. The police station will also be first to go ahead with such a programme in the district.
Steps have been taken to install 12 complaint boxes within the jurisdiction of Koilandy police station. Each box will be set up at the grama panchayats falling under the limits of the police station, one will be kept at the municipal office, on the Kappad beach and at Nandi market. Constables on beat duty will check the complaint boxes on alternate days, Mr. Umesh says. Complaints should contain full address and telephone number. However, this rule will not be applicable for those giving some secret information. The complaint box scheme will be inaugurated within next week, he adds.
