Letters to the Editor
The Finance Ministry's decision to introduce a four-page 2F form, in the place of Saral, to file income tax returns defies all logic. The new form intrudes into one's privacy by demanding that household expenses, opening and closing cash balance in bank accounts, etc. be disclosed.
M.K.D. Prasada Rao,
* * * The move to replace saral (simple) with kathin (difficult) forms is in the wrong direction. If the past is any indication, tax revenue has increased when the Government has made payment easy. The Ministry should plan tax collection in such a way that it looks easier to pay.
Ashok Jain,
* * * The irony is that the Finance Ministry calls the new form simpler! By calling for details of one's bank accounts, it seeks to invade privacy.
K.R.A. Narasiah,
