GUNTUR: The Social Welfare department would begin 23 new hostels for college girls soon, one hostel for each district in the State. The district Collectors were asked to send 10 proposals for setting up the integrated hostels in various places according to the specific needs of a region These hostels would have a capacity to house 400 students and would be built at an estimated cost of Rs.1.5 crores. The Collectors were also asked to identify at least two acres of land for each hostel, said Social Welfare Commissioner Rajendra Mohan Gonela, at a press conference here on Tuesday. He was in Guntur to conduct a review meeting with the officials of various departments involved in the Indiramma scheme.
House sites
The Government is also aiming at giving 5.6 lakh house sites to all the eligible beneficiaries by month-end under Indiramma programme, Mr Gonela said. Out of these, 4.17 lakh house sites were meant for rural areas while 1.43 lakh house sites were meant for those in urban areas. "Till Monday, 1.93 lakh sites were handed over to the beneficiaries across the State," he stated.
