HYDERABAD: The Secunderabad division of the South Central Railway is proposing to establish a hotel -- Budget Hotel -- on the Boiguda side of the Secunderabad Railway Station in the city. The hotel will be set up under public-private partnership. The railways will lease out land while private parties will take up construction and maintenance works. Speaking to The Hindu , SCR Divisional Manager Sudhir Mittal has said that 3,350 square metres of land on the Boiguda side of the station has been identified for the purpose. Tenders were called in March this year and nine applications had been received.
Two entrances
The proposed hotel will have two entrances -- one from Boiguda side and the other from the Oliphant Bridge side. It will be managed by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The lease period will be 30 years. "The idea is to utilise the surplus land of the railways and offer high standards of accommodation to commuters, particularly those of middle income groups, " says Mr. Mittal. There are plans to tie up with the Tourism Department, adding that similar hotels are likely to come up at Vijayawada and Tirupati in the State while 70 such hotels are expected to come up all over the country.
