REVIEWING PROGRESS: Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran inspecting the progress in the construction of the Pallikodi bridge on Tuesday.
KOLLAM: Pallikodi bridge across the Ashtamudi Lake in Chavara will be commissioned in September, Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran, who is also the Chavara MLA, told press persons after inspecting the progress on the construction of the bridge on Tuesday. Out of the 36 spans of the bridge, three had slipped and collapsed while being placed into position. Two of these spans have been replaced. The third one will be replaced by mid June. The work on laying the slabs will be over within 25 days after that. Mr. Premachandran said that the approach road on either side have to be completed then. A few houses, shops and a KSEB transformer will have to be shifted for building the approach road. The procedures for the same have been completed. A meeting for taking steps for the speedy completion of the work on the bridge will be held at the chamber of Public Works Minister P.J. Joseph on Wednesday, Mr. Premachandran said.
