Government to address the issue of shortage of nursing, paramedical staff

Thiruvananthapuram: The functioning of all district hospitals in the State will be improved and the facilities upgraded, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said.

She was addressing a joint meeting of district panchayat presidents and the superintendents of all district hospitals here on Tuesday.

The local bodies would have to actively involve themselves in improving the functioning of district hospitals. They should also concentrate on enhancing the facilities and physical infrastructure in government hospitals, by cooperating with the hospital development societies. Steps should be taken for ensuring the availability of medicines, drinking water and medical equipment in hospitals, she said.

The Government will take immediate steps for resolving the shortage of nursing and other paramedical staff in hospitals, the Minister said.

Those who attended the meeting included Health Secretary Viswas Mehta and the Director-in-charge, Health Services, T. K. Kuttamani.
