BULL-HEADED STANCE: A novel protest organized by Telugu Desam activists turned sour when a bull did not cooperate to pull the carts at Jagadamba junction in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. Photo: K.R. Deepak
VISAKHAPATNAM: Political parties adopt novel methods to grab the attention of the people and drive home their point. Sometimes these methods turn out to be quite embarrassing for the parties themselves. Senior Telugu Desam leader M.V.V.S. Murthi faced that kind of situation during the party's programme conducted on Tuesday against the hike in prices of petrol and diesel. Bullock carts were engaged to be part of the protest march to explain that the people were left with no option but to switch back to the old method of conveyance in view of the steep hike in prices of fuel. But for Dr. Murthi the experience turned out to be a bitter one as one of the bullocks yoked to the cart suddenly became uncontrollable. The large number of people around it seemed to have disturbed it. Dr. Murthi standing on the cart was scared and refused to continue the ride even after the bullock was calmed down and brought back under the yoke. The CPI (M), arranged the `sale' of two-wheelers and helmets to a scrap dealer, to illustrate the fate of common people using the vehicles in view of the price hike. There is another pushcart vendor `exchanging' vehicles for onions.
