RETHINKING STRATEGIES: Congress leaders Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and A.K. Antony at the Kollam DCC general body meeting on Tuesday. DCC president Sooranad Rajashekaran is also seen.
KOLLAM: The Congress leader A.K. Antony has said that within two weeks of its rule, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government had lost its sheen. Addressing the Kollam District Congress Committee general body meeting on Tuesday, he said the people had become dejected with the LDF rule. Even the relief measures taken for the victims of the monsoon fury was unsatisfactory. He alleged that the LDF rule was being remote-controlled from the AKG Centre. He told the Congressmen not to get dejected by the defeat in the Assembly elections. Demands
In his address, the former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy wanted the LDF Government to come out with a White Paper on the financial position of the State. The UDF Government had come out with a White Paper while assuming power in 2001. The LDF should also do so and let the people compare both of them. He alleged that extortion and goondaism had already become active under the LDF rule. The decision not to implement the Loading and Unloading Act 2002 is a step aimed at promoting extortion. He called upon the LDF Government to reduce the sales tax on petrol and diesel for keeping the prices of the two products as low as possible. He reminded that the UDF Government had done so. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala spoke. District Congress Committee president Sooranad Rajashekaran presided over the function.
