CPI(M) meet begins tomorrow

Central committee will take up fuel price hike in 3-day meeting

HYDERABAD: The meeting of the central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will be held in the city from Thursday.

Petroleum price hike, cut in food subsidy, disinvestment and foreign policy are some of the key issues that are expected to come up for discussion during the three-day meeting that will be attended by the top brass of the CPI (M). The meeting assumes significance in the light of the UPA Government's decision to hike petroleum prices despite strong opposition from the Left parties that are extending crucial support to the Congress-led UPA Government.

According to CPI (M) State secretary and Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu the meeting would deliberate on a range of issues. In the backdrop of developments in Iran and US-friendly gestures of the UPA coalition, the country's foreign policy is likely to be another key issue to be debated.

Mr. Raghavulu said that the central committee would also review the political situation in the country and the performance of the UPA Government in the past two years to decide the course of action to be adopted in the immediate future as well as in the long-term.

The party would finalise the campaigns and struggles to be launched against the policies being adopted by the UPA coalition.
