Additional forces for panchayat polls: DGP

VIZIANAGARAM: Director-General of Police Swarnajit Sen has said that additional platoons from neighbouring states will be requisitioned for the smooth conduct of panchayat elections.

Addressing a press conference at the District Police Office here on Tuesday, Mr. Sen said that the law and order situation in the State was under control.

On frequency of road accidents, Mr. Sen said that the Chief Minister had already held detailed discussion twice and concrete steps would be evolved in a few days to control fatalities.

Naxal issue

With regard to naxalites, he said: `There is no change in the Government's policy." The policehad been getting support from the State and the Central Government to deal with Maoists.

On the reported `non-bailable warrant' issued to him, Mr. Sen said that the DGP office would soon issue clear orders on missing persons as there was no Section to book FIR. He said that for total transparency, the Right to Information Act would be implemented in the department.
