RTC not to increase fares

HYDERABAD: The State-owned Road Transport Corporation has stated that despite the roughly Rs. 100-crore burden imposed on it by the diesel price hike, it would not increase the fares.

In a press release, M.V. Krishna Rao, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, said corporation was witnessing increased public patronage.

Foundation for Fab City today

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will unveil the foundation plaque for the multi-billion dollar Fab City project to be set up at Tukkuguda, near here, on Wednesday.

Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Communications and IT, will preside over the function to be held at Hotel Kakatiya Sheraton.

The MoU for the most advanced facility for fabrication of semiconductors was signed by SemIndia and the Government of Andhra Pradesh on February 16, according to a press release. - Special Correspondent

All set for seed release

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will release 26 new seed varieties pertaining to cotton, greengram, rice, redgram and sugarcane developed by Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University on Wednesday.

Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy in a press release here on Tuesday hoped that farmers would benefit from the scientific advances in the agricultural sector. - Special Correspondent

Woman naxal surrenders

VISAKHAPATNAM: A member of the Deruvada dalam of the CPI (Maoist) in Srikakulam, Vantala Bangari alias Radha, surrendered before Visakhapantam Superintendent of Police J.G. Murali on Tuesday. She took part in the attacks on Kuneru railway station in Vizianagaram and the murder of a home guard in Orissa. - Special Correspondent

BIE rectifies `mistake'

HYDERABAD: The Board of Intermediate Education on Tuesday attributed the issue of its order on SC reservation for admission based on categorisation to `clerical error'. R.P. Sisodia, Secretary, in a press release said the `mistake had been noticed and rectified'.

The board has issued letters to regional inspection officers in the State and principals of all junior colleges to follow reservations for SCs without categorisation. - Special Correspondent

Suspension of headmasters flayed

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union has termed `unjust' the suspension of headmasters of Government schools holding them responsible for "zero per cent results" in SSC examinations.

In a statement here on Tuesday, B. Mohan Reddy, president and P.L. Narasimha Reddy, general secretary of the union, said punitive action against school assistants who were in-charge headmasters indicated Government's vindictive attitude. - Special Correspondent

First inflows

HYDERABAD : Andhra Pradesh has begun to get season's first inflows in the Krishna river from its upper reaches.

This is due to heavy rain in the river's Maharashtra catchment. On Tuesday, Jurala project, the first harnessing point of the river in the State, was getting about 2,000 cusecs. An inflow of 55,000 cusecs was reaching Almatti dam. In the Thungabhadra basin, Hospet dam in Karnataka, was getting about 12,000 cusecs of inflows. - Special Correspondent

South-west monsoon advances further

VISAKHAPATNAM: South-west monsoon has advanced on Tuesday into the remaining parts of Bay of Bengal and coastal Andhra Pradesh, according to a special weather bulletin issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre here. Under its influence, light to moderate rain is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours, says the bulletin.

SV University inks MoU with CLRI

TIRUPATI: The SV University on Monday entered into an MoU with the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai. T. Ramaswamy signed the MoU on behalf of CLRI, N.
