IMPHAL: Security has been tightened in Manipur ahead of the June 18 Martyrs' Day. Senior police officers say the situation is volatile and precautionary measures were being taken to prevent any untoward incidents. Martyrs' Day is observed in memory of 18 persons killed in an agitation on 2001. They were protesting against extension of the ceasefire between the Union Government and the Isaac Muivah faction of the NSCN to Manipur. Following violent protest the ceasefire was withdrawn. United Naga Council has asked all Nagas in the State to distance themselves from the June 18 function.
