NDMC drive to prevent mosquito breeding

NEW DELHI: The Health Department of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has following a three-month intensive survey on mosquito breeding treated 47 clean water bodies with Gambusia larvivorous fish and nine polluted water bodies with Guppy larvivorous fish which eat mosquitoes.

During the drive to prevent mosquito breeding, 4,685 overhead tanks of NDMC and Central Public Works Department office complexes, schools, courts, police stations and hospitals were checked and the conditions were found to be alarming. Subsequently repair of damaged overhead tanks was expedited and in 2,149 tanks found without hinges instructions were issued to install the hinges.

Stagnation was also found in 3,372 gully gratings and storm water drains
