NEW DELHI: With the panel patronised by Delhi Congress president Ram Babu Sharma emerging victorious in the elections of the Delhi State Electricity Workers' Union, the Capital's citizens can, according to observers, look forward to a more receptive approach from the workers who would be out to expose corruption and wrongdoings plaguing Delhi's power generation and distribution system. The elections of DSEWU, which operates in five electricity companies in the Capital, namely Transco Limited, Genco Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and NDPL Limited, were held on June 2 as per the directions of a Division Bench of the High Court. Kuldeep Kumar, who polled 7,561 votes, was elected general secretary defeating his nearest rival, Akbar Khalid, by 6,224 votes. Rishipal was elected president of the union and Sanjay Sharma office secretary. Besides, 42 other candidates of Mr. Kumar's panel were also elected in the polls. The victory of the Kuldeep Kumar panel assumes significance considering that elections to DSEWU had not been held for the last eight years. Office secretary Sanjay Sharma said all the power distribution companies had tried to ensure defeat of the Kuldeep Kumar panel
