NEW DELHI: To voice its protest against the latest increases in the prices of petrol and diesel by the Union Government and the cascading effect it will have on the daily life of the common man, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party will hit the streets here on Wednesday by blocking traffic in different parts of the Capital. Party president Rajnath Singh will kick off the protest at Moti Nagar Chowk along with the party MP from South Delhi, Vijay Kumar Malhotra. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan demanded that the hike be withdrawn immediately as it would have a crippling effect on household budgets and throw everything out of gear for the man on the street. Dr. Vardhan said the Left parties, who were supporting the UPA Government from outside, were indulging in double talk. "On one hand they talk of nationwide stir and on the other they are party to the decision to burden the common man. It is unfortunate that during the two-year rule of the Congress-led Government at the Centre, the fuel price has been hiked six times." Dr. Vardhan said the people were suffering due to the steep rise in prices of essential commodities and now the oil price hike would make things even worse. "Foodgrains, oil, vegetable, fruits, cement, steel, textile, stationery and all other essential commodities have witnessed a massive price rise during the past few months but the Government is watching the entire situation unfold like a mute spectator." Dr. Vardhan said the BJP agitation against the fuel hike would continue till the Government withdrew the increased price of diesel and petrol.
Instructions
He said instructions had already been issued to the party leaders and cadres to gather in full strength to lodge their strong protest against this anti-people move and pressurise the Union Government to roll back the massive hike.
