`Food poisoning on the rise'

KOCHI: Environmental hazards and incidents of food poisoning are increasing in our country. This calls for the urgent need to follow hygienic and safe methods of processing food, including seafood, T S G Iyer, vice president of the Food Safety Solutions International, Kochi, said. He was speaking on `HACCP aspects of food products', during the World Environment Day celebrations organised by Central Institute of Fisheries Technology. — Staff Reporter

Orientation programme

Kochi: The Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal, ushered in the new academic year with a five-day orientation programme for teachers from May 24. Inaugurating the programme, Justice T.N. Vishwanatha Iyer called upon teachers to be fresh and lively, in everything they do. Teachers have to perform multi-faceted roles as mother, councillor, friend, etc. Updating their knowledge is as important as being role models in this stress-driven world, he said. School Principal Krishnakumari Nair said that education is a journey which is as important as the destination. She focused on value-oriented excellence as the motto of the academic year.
