VISAKHAPATNAM: Political parties reacting strongly to the hike in prices of petrol and diesel staged demonstrations in the city and district on Tuesday blaming the UPA Government at the Centre. The Telugu Desam, CPI (M), CPI and Bharatiya Janata Party held dharnas and rasta-rokos to register their protest and vowed to continue their protest till the prices were rolled back.
CPI city council took out a procession in Akkayyapalem and held a rasta-roko at Sangam office junction. Rajya Sabha Member and party's State leader Aziz Pasha criticised the Central Government for not implementing the many measures suggested by the Left parties like recovering Rs.1.30 lakh crores of arrears that the major investors owed to the banks, collecting tax arrears etc., to avoid price hike. Instead the people were forced to bear a great burden, he said. CPI (M) city committee staged a protest demonstration, blocked traffic for some time and burnt an effigy at the busy Jagadamba junction. City secretary K. Lokanadham said that the UPA Government increased the prices for the fifth time in the last two years and made life worse for common man
