Representatives of shipping companies visit Puthuvype

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: A four-member team of experts belonging to private shipping companies in Japan visited Puthuvype where the LNG terminal is proposed to be constructed.

The visit was part of a study by experts in the field in the wake of the Government move to allow foreign liners to transport LNG to the new project.

Officials of the Shipping Corporation of India accompanied the team. The team met the LNG chief project officer Jacob Thomas and Chairman of the Cochin Port Trust N. Ramachandran. They are slated to leave Kochi on Wednesday, according to sources.

Though agreements are yet to be finalised on the LNG sourcing and carriage contract, steps are in progress to construct the terminal on time. The project is to be completed by 2009.
