Commodity prices

The following were the prices (in Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Tuesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry:

Groundnut oil-52, sunflower oil-48.50, tamarind (flower variety)-30 to 39, tamarind (karipuli variety)-44 to 52, chillies-35 to 45, rice (2716)-14, rice (super fine)-15, rice (sona masoori)-18 to 19, rice (samba masoori)-16, black gram-42 and red gram-25 to 30.50.

Teachers promotions

Teachers in 22 municipal high schools in the city limits were given promotions.

There are 10 vacant posts of English teachers, 10 for maths teachers, two each for Hindi and Telugu pundits and one each vacant post of physical science and natural science teachers in Urdu medium.

Mayor T. Sakuntala met the Municipal Commissioner and the meeting was followed by counselling for candidates eligible for promotions based on roaster list. Nine candidates were promoted as senior assistants, three were promoted as grade-I pundits. One post in English (SC), Maths (S.T) and Hindi (SC) were kept vacant for want of eligible candidates.
