Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have arrested two persons in connection with the death of a 35-year-old man under mysterious circumstances at Putharikandam Maidan last month. The body of Kelu Nazeer was found in a highly decomposed state in a remote corner of the maidan on May 30. The post-mortem examination revealed that Nazeer had consumed heroin and had died of internal bleeding. The forensic doctors also found a fracture on his cheekbone. The police who questioned some vendors in East Fort area learned that Nazeer was last seen in the company of Sathar, 29, a resident of Vallakadavu. According to Circle Inspector, Fort, T.K. Rajmohan, Sathar and Nazeer had bought heroin from a drug peddler and consumed it together at the spot where Nazeer's body was later found. Mr. Rajmohan said Sathar and Nazeer had injected the drug into their veins. Sathar reportedly left the spot after Nazeer failed to wake up. The incident occurred on May 25. The same day, Nazeer had sustained a facial injury in a fight with an INTUC worker, Dasthakeer, in Chalai market. Mr. Rajmohan said both Nazeer and Dasthakeer were arrested on the charge of murder.
Two held
The Poojappura police, on Tuesday, arrested two persons in connection with a series of vehicle thefts and chain-snatchings in the city. The police identified the accused as Dilip, 21, of Tamalam and Nawaz, 20, of Niramankara. Sub-Inspector J. Mohandas said the youth were intercepted while travelling on a stolen motorbike near the Poojappura Saraswathi Mandapam. They were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
