THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Various organisations have voiced protests against the decision of the Central Government to increase the prices of petrol and diesel. Activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and All India Youth Federation (AIYF) took out protest marches and staged dharna in front of the office of the Accountant-General demanding that the Government repeal the hike. CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the dharna organised by the DYFI. The federation will organise protest marches in the district on Wednesday. AIYF State secretary V.S. Sunil Kumar who inaugurated the march said that the hike in fuel prices would lead to a steep increase in the transportation cost and the prices of essential commodities. Instead of burdening the public with the hike, the Government should repeal the decision, he said. The AIYF leadership plans to conduct protest demonstrations across the State on Wednesday. The District Motor and Engineering Mazdoor Sangh affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh organised a protest meeting. General secretary C. Jyothish Kumar who inaugurated the meeting demanded that the Left parties withdraw its support to the United Progressive Alliance Government in protest against the price increase.
