Give priority to needs of citizens, BMP officials told

Staff Reporter

Plan your work to provide better services, says Commissioner

BANGALORE: Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner K. Jairaj on Tuesday called upon officials to give priority to the interests of citizens, paying less attention to the shortfalls of the organisation.

Speaking at an interaction meeting with officials from the west zone, the Commissioner asked the officials to work towards fulfilling the expectations of people. "Citizens believe that Bangalore is a place where they can live in comfort. That is why they quickly react and criticise the BMP if they find potholes, clogged drains, snapped branches, dirty streets and any other civic problems," he said.

Pointing out that the BMP also had its limitations, the Commissioner said: "I know that the staff also work under pressure. They have to combat problems such as shortage of staff and lack of infrastructure. Amid all these problems, you should aim at solving the problems of citizens on priority. You should be ready to balance the situation and provide good services to citizens," he said.

Opportunity

Admitting that it is difficult for the 14,000 workforce of BMP to cater to the needs of the city's 60 lakh population, the Commissioner said: "This is a rare opportunity for you to serve the citizens of a vast city. Develop skills to overcome stress and plan your work to provide better services. Planning helps in discharging duties efficiently."

Joint Commissioner (West) M.A. Khalid, the Deputy Commissioner (Health) Manu Baligar were present. The meeting was organised by the BMP Employees Central Union.
