BIJAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin has denied that he intentionally avoided accompanying Lokayukta N. Venkatachala when the latter visited Muddebihal taluk on May 31. Mr. Mohsin issued a clarification on Wednesday denying all charges made by Lokayukta against him. During his visit to Muddebihal, the Lokayukta had said that Mr. Mohsin had no courage to face him and was avoiding him citing lame excuses. When the Lokayukta visited Bijapur in 2004, Mr. Mohsin got exemption from accompanying the former through a court order. And this time, he cited the reason of an official meeting in Bangalore. Mr. Mohsin said that on May 29 and 30, he was in the divisional headquarters, Belgaum, to participate in official meetings. Then he got a fax message from a Legislative Council Committee asking him to appear before it on May 31.
Chief Secretary's message
He left for Bangalore from Belgaum. When he was on his way to Bangalore, Revenue Secretary (Drought Cell) G. Latha Krishna Rao contacted him on phone and asked him to return to Bijapur immediately as there were chances of flash-floods. He cut short his visit and returned to Bijapur. Also, the Chief Secretary sent a message asking him not to leave the district headquarters in the wake of weather reports suggesting heavy rainfall. This was why he could not being present when the Lokayukta was in Muddebihal. However, Mr. Mohsin said, he asked Assistant Commissioner T.H.M. Kumar to accompany the Lokayukta and provide information. Besides, he directed all district officials to be present to make preparations for the visit of the Lokayukta. Referring to alleged irregularities in the distribution of houses under the Ashraya scheme, he said he had asked the official concerned to investigate and file a report.
