Pondicherry: Pondicherry Government has brought into force a scheme to exempt students, appearing for the public examinations (SSLC, Higher Secondary Course, SSC and Intermediate) through the government schools and also government-aided schools in the Union Territory, from paying examination fees. An official source told The Hindu on Wednesday that the Government would and pay the fees to Secondary Education Boards concerned. A Government notification dated March 1 this year and published in the State Gazette this week said that the purpose of the scheme was to encourage students as well as increase the pass percentage in public examinations. The notification also said the scheme was deemed to have come into force from 2005-06 academic year. All students studying in Standards X and XII in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions (adopting the Tamil Nadu Secondary Education Board pattern of curriculum and examination system), SSLC and HSC in Mahe region (adopting the pattern and examination system of Board of Secondary Education of Kerala) and the SSC and Intermediate (both First and Second year) in Yanam region (adopting the pattern of Board of Secondary Education and of Intermediate Education of Andhra Pradesh) are eligible to get the exemption from payment of examination fees. All students irrespective of income of their parents, religion and caste are eligible.
