Staff Reporter

International film week to be organised from June 9

  • Actor Ambarish will inaugurate the festival
  • Films to be screened at Pallavi theatre

Bangalore: Fifty years ago, an experiment began in a tiny village called Heggodu. K.V. Subbanna, later a Magsaysay Award recipient, started a cultural institution called Ninasam with active participation from the community. The purpose, now widely acclaimed, was to expose the community to cultures from different lands.

Inspired by this experiment, Forum Films is organising an International Film Week.

From June 9 to 15, people in Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore can watch internationally acclaimed films such as L'enfant (winner of the Golden Palm for best film at Cannes this year), Barbarian Invasions, The Beat My Heart Skipped, King's Game, Gori Vatra, Lemming and Emperor's Journey.

The film week will be inaugurated on June 8 by actor and MP Ambarish.

Actor Vishnuvardhan will be felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to cinema.

Hoping for the success of the film week, Narayan of Forum Films said, "We are expecting at least 4,500 people to attend the film week... If this experiment is not successful, we will have to again become dependant on embassies to showcase foreign films."

The films will be screened at Pallavi theatre in Bangalore. Tickets will be available at the theatre. In keeping with its aim of taking acclaimed foreign films to district centres also, the film week will move to Hubli and Belgaum from June 16 to June 22.
