Sandeep to lead

VIJAYAWADA: V. Sandeep will lead the Krishna District Cricket Association's under-19 team in the Central Zone ACA inter-district tournament for the S.V. Giridhar Trophy.

Abhimanyu, K. Rajeev Krishna, M. Sasikanth; stand-byes: N. Raj Kumar (wk), T. Lakshminarayana, T. Durga Prasad, M.V. Durga Prasad, Sk. Irfan; coach-cum-manager: Nirmal Kumar.

Kabaddi title for Vijayawada Division

South Central Railway Vijayawada Division's kabaddi team won the AP State invitation tournament at Doranakal recently, defeating SAI hostel team, Khammam, 26-14.

Vijayawada Division won all the three league matches against Warangal District team, Nalgonda District team and SAI hostel, Khammam. Mangat Ram of Vijayawada Division was declared the man of the tournament. The other players who displayed their all-round prowess were Vital Babu and Laxminarayana. Divisional railway manager J. N. Jagannanth, additional DRM K.V.V. Satyanarayana and divisional sports officer P. Kishore Babu congratulated the players.

City karatekas excel

Vijayawada karatekas Khadeer, Trinadh and Durga Prasad won medals in the State-level karate and kung-fu open championships - 2006 at Kanchikacherla recently. Khadeer won first place in team kata event and finished second in individual kata segment in yellow belt category, while Trinadh and Durga Prasad finished first and second in the individual kata event in white belt section.
