Indians belie expectations

KOLKATA: It was a disappointing opening day for the Indian archers in the qualification round of the second Meteksan archery World Cup at Antalya in Turkey on Wednesday.

Dola Banerjee (647) finished a creditable seventh in women's recurve while Jhano Hansdah (622) was third overall in women's compound.

In the men's recurve section Jayanta Talukdar was pushed to 25th spot (652 points), Rahul Banerjee finished 16th (657), and Tarundeep Rai ended 20th (654). Nenavath Ravindhar was 49th (644). The three best scores contributed to the team's total of 1963 for seventh place.

On the distaff side, Sushma was 20th (634) while Reena was 27th (629) and Laxmirani Majhi was 59th (599). The women totalled 1,910 points and finished third. The women 's compound team ended fifth with 1,810. Special Correspondent
