"Naxals will not be allowed to misguide the tribals"

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has said that all development-related activities should be carried out at the grassroots level with active cooperation of people's representatives in the naxalite-affected areas.

Mr. Chauhan said the tribals should have a sense of belonging and faith in the democratic system. He stressed the need for absolute coordination among all State Government departments when it comes to redress of people's grievances in the tribal areas and said that the naxalites cannot be allowed to misguide the tribals. "To meet this objective, the State Government is ready to seek the cooperation of all political parties," he added.

The Chief Minister was addressing a meeting held here on Tuesday to review the situation in the four naxalite-affected districts— Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori and Sidhi.

The Chief Minister said naxal activities had been brought under control in the State.

"However, keeping in view the prevailing situation in neighbouring States, there is need for utmost vigil," he added.
