KAPURTHALA: A retired BSF deputy commandant and his wife were shot dead by unidentified assailants in their house here, police said on Wednesday. Mohinder Singh and his wife Daljit Kaur were asleep when the assailants entered their house at Markedfed Chowk and shot them dead on Tuesday night. The killers did not loot the house and left after the incident, they said. The dead couple was found by their maid servant this morning. She informed the neighbours who alerted the police. Police said the bodies were lying in a pool of blood. Though a dog squad was pressed into service, it lost the scent after a few yards, they said. Singh, who retired about five years ago, settled here after buying a house near the Markedfed. His eldest son Rana died three years ago. - PTI
