Stealing plants

The walk way on Race Course road is indeed a beautiful, refreshing sight. Unfortunately some miscreants don't seem to think so. We have heard of people stealing vehicles, clothes, money....but plants?

On May 22 my husband and I were returning home around 11.30 in the night and near All Souls Church two well-dressed men on a Suzuki had already loaded their bike with all the crotons planted in the gardens. They had uprooted them and tied them on to the bike. We chased them down the road trying to get their bike number. Unfortunately some of the plants were in a gunny bag behind the bike and the number plate was hidden. So we gave up and drove home, really angry and annoyed.

The next morning on my way to work I stopped by and was aghast to see huge holes in the ground where the beautiful plants had been.

Is there some way we can stop this low-down act of stealing? If these men can steal something as small as plants surely our vehicles and other belongings are not at all safe even during the day time.

Can we please do something to stop this disgraceful act?

Commendable

Trained counsellors at Don Bosco Anbu Illam Social Service Society and Childline are doing a marvellous job consoling hapless children who have not come out successful in the Plus Two examinations. They are second to none in pacifying the children and helping them regain their self-confidence.

Bus service

Many buses are not operated for lack of staff. In Karnataka, particularly in Bangalore , buses ply with only a driver. He issues tickets and collects fare. This system can be implemented on an experimental basis in Coimbatore and other parts of Tamil Nadu. This will reduce the passenger crowding and increase revenue of the transport corporation. Similarly daily coupons for value of Rs. 25 can be issued to passengers in all cities of Tamil Nadu which is now in vogue only in Chennai.

Build subway

Commuters find it very difficult to cross Mettupalayam Road near Gujarati Samaj and Dr. Nanjappa Road near City Bus stand. Coimbatore Corporation authorities should construct subways at these places. This will ensure safety of road users.

Problem area

We face a number of problems in our residential area - from Gandhipuram signal to GP (on the left side of Sathy main road).

Drainage system: There is no proper drainage system.

Corporation waste box/bin: No such provisions have been made and polythene covers and other wastes are strewn all over the place. Parking area: There is no provision for parking vehicles and this inconveniences pedestrians and children.

Rash driving and sound horns: Vehicles are driven rashly and there is high air and sound pollution in the area.

Sarala,

Gandhipuram.
