Rs.16.3 crores earmarked for SSA projects in Kozhikode

Panchayats should bear 25 per cent of total cost


  • Panchayats told to submit project proposals before June 30
  • Awareness programmes planned for members of local bodies
  • Books to be given free to girls from Class II to Cass VIII
  • Medical camps to be organised for physically challenged students

    KOZHIKODE: District panchayat president K.P. Kunhammedkutty said here on Thursday that projects estimated to cost Rs.16.3 crores would be implemented under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the current academic year in the district.

    Addressing a meeting of panchayat presidents and secretaries at the District Collectorate here, Mr. Kunhammedkutty said the panchayats have to submit their projects before June 30. The panchayats should shoulder 25 per cent of the total cost of the SSA project.

    Girls of all communities and boys belonging to SC\ST Communities from Class II to VIII would be given books free under the project.

    A total of 67,244 students under the LP section and 93, 278 students under the UP section would be covered under the project. He said 127 classrooms would be constructed in various schools. A total of 100 schools would be electrified.

    Grant would be given to 13,567 teachers to prepare study materials.

    Repair works in 393 schools and beautification works in 1,510 schools would be undertaken. A sum of Rs.15 lakhs has been set aside to increase the facilities in anganwadis and for computer education.

    new centre would be established for bringing dropouts into the mainstream education system apart from strengthening the already existing 27 such centres.

    Awareness programmes would be organised for members of local bodies.

    Medical camps would be organised for physically challenged students and aid equipment would be disbursed. Physically challeneged persons who are bedridden would be provided tuition in their homes.
