Perjury in Best Bakery case re-trial
|
MUMBAI:
Additional sessions judge Abhay Thipsay on Thursday sentenced Zahira Sheikh's sister Sahira to three months rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 500 for perjury in the Best Bakery case re-trial.
Zahira and her family were the main eyewitnesses in the Best Bakery carnage, which took place in March 2002 at Vadodara.
However, both in the trial at the fast track court in Vadodara and in the special court, which conducted the re-trial in Mumbai, the whole family turned hostile.
Mr. Thipsay allowed Sahira time till July 10 to appeal against the order and suspended her sentence till then.
Mr. Thipsay on Wednesday held both Sahira and her younger brother Nasibullah guilty of perjury. In the case of Nasibullah, he asked for a report from a probation officer by June 15.
The court ordered that the probation officer visit Nasibullah at his house and speak to his family and file a report, before the sentence. The court will hear the perjury case against Zahira on Friday.
