DHARWAD: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj S. Horatti has called upon private educational institutions to express their social concern by giving admissions to poor students who have not scored high marks in examinations.
Inaugurated
He was speaking after inaugurating school buildings of Janata Shikshana Samiti and Matoshri Ratnamma Heggade Smaraka Vidyasoudha here on Thursday. He also stressed the need for private educational institutions to give importance to Kannada language and culture.
Appeal
The Minister lauded the contributions of various private institutions, including Janata Shikshana Samiti (JSS), for joining hands with the State Government in its efforts to provide education to all. The Minister also appealed to Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade, who presided over the function, to establish educational institutions at taluk centres in Dharwad.
Kannada mandatory
Mr. Horatti said that teaching Kannada had been made mandatory in all private English-medium schools and those following the CBSE syllabus in the State. On the occasion, Pralhad Joshi, MP, underscored the need for changing the perspective of the present-day education system and also giving value-based education to children. The former Minister S.R. Morey inaugurated the library building and spoke. Presiding over the function, Veerendra Heggade said the JSS planned to start programmes for improving the quality of education in government schools and others run by private institutions in the region. Hemavati Heggade, wife of Veerendra Heggade, released an information booklet on the JSS. Sri Visveshva Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math stressed the need for inculcating moral values in students and also making them aware of the importance of Kannada culture. N. Vajrakumar welcomed the gathering. Sadhana, headmistress, proposed a vote of thanks.
