  • State was collecting 34 p.c. tax on petrol, 23 p.c. on diesel
  • State Governments could choose to cut local taxes if concerned about the hike.

VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) urban unit has demanded that the State Government reduce its share of taxes on petroleum products, so as to lessen the burden on consumers.

TDP urban general secretary Nagul Meera pointed out on Thursday that the State was collecting a 34 per cent tax on petrol and 23 per cent tax on diesel.

"If Rajasekhara Reddy Government is indeed pro-people, it should immediately reduce these taxes.

The steep hike in the prices of petrol and diesel has hit normal life in Vijayawada, as the city is an automobile capital of the State," he said.
