Couple die of burns in stove burst

TAMBARAM: A couple died of burns they sustained, reportedly due to a stove burst at their house in Pallavaram late on Wednesday night.

Police said Adam, 25 and his wife, Zabitha, 20, had married nine months ago. On Wednesday night, the kerosene stove reportedly burst while Zabitha was working in the kitchen. Even as flames engulfed her, Adam tried to rescue her but flames caught on to him too. They were rushed to the Burns Ward of the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where both of them succumbed to burns on Thursday morning.

Gold jewels weighing about eight sovereigns and Rs. 4,000 in cash were burgled from the house of a bank officer in Nagappa Nagar, Chromepet, in broad daylight on Wednesday. Police said the officer, manager of the Triplicane branch of a nationalised bank had locked his house and went for work on Wednesday morning.
