Prohibition raids: 65 arrested

2,835 arrack sachets, 1,100 litres of illicit liquor seized

CHENNAI: The police continued prohibition raids for the fourth day on Wednesday and arrested 65 persons, including nine women. In a release, police claimed to have siezed 2,835 arrack sachets, 1,100 litres of illicit liquor, 4,000 litres of fermented wash, 200 grams of ganja, and 1,715 litres of fermented rice. Police also seized an auto rickshaw which was used by the alleged bootleggers. .Jayalakshmi (45) and Rani (30) of Tiruvottiyur, Malar (42) and Maheswari (41) of Vyasarpadi, Rani (60) of Choolai, Amirdham (57) of Pallavaram, Dhanam (50) and Raji (27) of Besant Nagar and Amudhua (38) of Porur were among those arrested.

Road accident

Two road accident deaths were reported on Wednesday.

According to the police, Mahesh (24), who was riding a motorcycle, died after hitting the median in front of ESI Hospital, KK Nagar around 11.30 PM on Wednesday. "Though he was admitted to the General Hospital, he died on Thursday afternoon," the police said.
